Re: FFA's ----Not Predictable |
OK, Glen - thanks for the clarification - but it seems your first post in this thread morphed from its title somewhat in that your negative opinion of quake prediction possibility went from the specific (FFAs) to the general (any earthquakes). And, with your next post, the one this is in response to, you pretty much limit your discussion to SoCal quakes . . . Perhaps you are just using SoCal as an example. I certainly do agree that some of the other forums, at least the only other one I look at with any regularity (Syzygy/JOB), demonstrate among their membership a remarkable ability to keep believing in their individual methodologies despite thousands of failures extending over a span of years. The nearest of the multiple (early!) wildland fires to me (near San Luis Obispo) is the "Indians" fire burning mostly in the Ventana Wilderness area (the inland side of the Coast Range adjacent to the Big Sur coastline). That's probably 80 miles north of me. It's about 17,000 acres, 16% contained, and has had a number of injuries, including severe burns. What interests me is the, so far, two major fires that have burned in the Santa Cruz mountains - AKA "the asbestos forest."! Those redwoods rarely burn, and now we've had two large fires in one season, and very early in the season at that. Statewide, fire season is off to a very early start. See ya. Mike W.
