Roger and I once collected years of syzygies to see whether an influence on earthquakes was discernible (it wasn't). So of course Jim complained he used extra criteria we hadn't included, pointed out one or two (or 15-25) hits as proof syzygy mattered, then pulled the little-guy-getting-quashed-by-big-science card.

The odd aspect is that tidal stresses must matter, at some level. The level is apparently so small that we can't find it except in exceptional cases. We've known this for decades. But some learn more slower than others.
