Ok, I extracted all the mag 7+ quakes from 1973-2007. Then I compared all the quakes to all the major quakes looking for anything up to 5 hours before or after and over 1100km away. Anything that fit was counted by hours, from -5 to +5.

There were more quakes before than after; 4801 before, 4551 after. I didn't count the zero hour quakes but the hour total was not much different than the other hours.

I suspect the published report was either a fluke or an example of cherry picking.
