Canie..thanks. Yup, our project will involve history of LA area..back about 20 million years, but will especially be the vertical motions over the last 5 million years.
concerning fast computers: they are limited in 3D ground motion modeling by computing speed...they want to model at higher frequencies...but this is all incredibly demanding (is it called "terraflops?)..."they" being Olsen and others.
As for me...I've had a rough software day: I have a new laptop and am running a 64 bit version of a software I use to interpret faults and folds...brought a project into HW's lab to my (UCSB) other computer, and it would not open. Used to be you just saved the Project; now the data base is separate and you have to save both in some complicated way: "support" emailed my on how to do this.

I am used to being underfunded...now I have good funding but now I have to get used to multi-tasking. I'd like to just work on one project for a year or 2, but I guess in most fields you don't get to do that...and not in this one either unless you don't mind not getting paid.
