Glen...list? Elsinore? |
Glen, can you post the whole list? You mention 2 very heavy rainfall years where there were M5+ quakes. You mention a couple of other years where there was heavy rainfall and no quakes. Just because there were years with heavy rainfall and no quakes does not mean that there is not some (weak) link (or quakes with light rainfall). On the other hand, we may be dealing with statistics of small numbers here. But, since you went to the trouble of coming up with the data, it might as well be graphed. Lets see...year on the horizontal axis, and rainfall (by month? by 3 months? running average) on the vertical along with quakes by magnitude on the vertical. I prefer graphs to statistics partly because I am weak on statistics, and because graphs are visual as to whether there might be a relation even if not statistically significant. If the list is long you can email to Roger or I or both. Mine is sorlien@mchsi.com You could do this graph, Roger could, I could...I don't know how to post graphics though without making a web address....I think you can though. As for Elsinore enigma: there is no reason why it "should" be creeping in the locked upper part. I think you mean that you should see the blocks on either side of each other moving past each other and do not with GPS (locked at shallow fault, but blocks flexing, and deep fault (below 10 or 15 km) creeping. Is that it? I had not heard about this. Follow Ups: ● Re: Glen...list?
