We used to laugh at geophysicists. They never really mapped anything, didn't know what a real rock looked like, and wore white cotton socks in the field (on rare occasions when they went there!)

We didn't understand 'e'...but of course, we could get them lost in the wilderness very very easily with just a topo map and compass. No GPS or cell phones when I was out there.

Ah...the good old days.
