New thead because old one is pretty far down. Dennis, I think I did not make it clear that what you say (pasted below) makes sense. Instead, I was questioning whether it was true that we were likely to have a very much quieter sun. And, I recall (but did not re-check), that your link was out there...that it was someone with unknown motivation and unknown credentials who was probably acting to confuse or distort. So, the questions are: how likely are we to go back into a sun as quiet as during the little ice age during the new solar cycle or the one after? How big is the temperature effect of quiet sun...what you post, or something less? How much CO2 are we going to release over the next 50 years and how big an effect will that have? How much additional warming do we expect from CO2 already in the atmosphere? What strange changes might there be if the sun puts out less watts m2 but the greenhouse effect is much stronger? Chris Pasted from Dennis: "I think science has underestimated the effect of the sun. For instance, during the Maunder world wide temps dropped almost 1 deg C and regionally London droped 4-6 deg. I'm not saying the green house gases won't have an effect and we need to keep trying to reduce them. If this lastest data is correct we may have some extra time to correct the CO2 and CH4 issues."
