Dennis - you wrote:

I'm really not trying to offend, but I just cannot help but ask how you could have the temerity to comment on a subject that you must know so little about compared to the legions of real experts who disagree with you. It's as if I, a retired fireman, wrote in to say that current scientific thinking with regard to the formation of the solar system was all wrong.

It's always interesting that the general public never has any opinion on any scientific matters at all unless those matters tread on some ideological beliefs. For instance: whether the sun or the Earth is the center of the solar system, the theory of evolution/natural selection, racial differences, gender differences. Compare that list and the attendant public discussion with the lack of public opposition (or opposition by right-wing idelogues or oil company mouthpieces) to such matters as cold fusion, the existence of black holes, "the polemics between gradualists and saltationists in evolutionary biology . . .the nature of interneuronal contacts [and] the conflicts between Newtonians and Cartesians in the 17th and 18th centuries"*.
