Bruce Luyendyk is the Antarctic researcher, and he was my thesis advisor for southern California tectonics. He is the lead on this Ross Ice Shelf scientific drilling site. He did a couple of field seasons on the ice (meaning, tents and snowmobiles and mountaineers), while I only went from the plane to the dorms to the ship....not very rugged.
