We have several different types of searches available here which we use. The most useful is a polygonal search. This allows the user to define a polygon with up to 10 vertices and retrieve the enclosed earthquakes. This takes care of most requirements other than circles and rectangles and FE regions. Unfortunately with a prediction such as "On a line between LA and SF" the evaluator must make judgment calls about how far off the line is allowed etc. The evaluator should not be placed in the position where these sorts of decisions need to be made. That should be the responsibility of the predictor.
