The purpose in sorting on F-E number is just for predictions like the one I was just looking at. Jack Coles predicted a 4+ in California with a 14 day window. A rectangle search includes most of Nevada so you get a false answer for probability.

Some people do like to predict for such areas, Indonesia or washington-Oregon and suchlike. We have no way to narrow it down at the moment. That's the need I am seeking to satisfy.

Plus these are standard definitions so it cuts down on the arguments about whether a quake is in the predicted area or not.
