Chris,

Infact I did not come across such discussions what you have referred. But I think it has not yield any fruitful outcome for a acceptable strategy. Based on my observation in general, following a strong or great quake, the mantle will settle down with continuous quakes with various magnitudes - normally with diminishing magnitude for which I do not register any relevant precursor at my end. What I reveal from it is the process of settling down of fault / crust at the particular location under the earth for a couple of weeks or even more which I would like to call as real after shocks. But subsequently if the same location comes under strong or moderate quake activity corresponding to new precursor registered at my observatory, I used to call it as fresh quake irrespective of its magnitude. Since no one was set a time frame for after shocks so far, what I feel my stand was right. We have to formulate scientific basis after a clean observation from nature.
