This also came up and was posted here a couple of years ago when there was that November meteor storm (was that Leonids?): they were heard at same time as seen. I think the source of an explanation might be NASA. Don't know whether it would be easier to find that with Google, or to get the year and date of the meteor storm (more than a shower...was unusual) and try the archives here. There was some problem with the archives: are the intact?
