I wondered about the claimed M9 as well. Possible, but it couldn't be in the same area, obviously.

The video does answer one question. It appears the locals knew to head to higher ground this time. I just hope they never forget.

The video was great. Seems to me he experience some very rough shaking followed which he exclaims to be the quake. Then he talks about it being a big one. P waves then S waves? The swaying palm trees were quite convincing.

His comments about nice long period motions reminds me of my experience with San Simeon from here in Orange County. The motion was about 2 hertz (based on venetian blind sympathetic motion) but barely perceptible. The blinds is what told me it had to be a large distant quake. Upon standing, I felt dizzy even though I still could not sense any actual motion.
