Rather than "I'm sorry that Iraq has a civil war going on and we're in the midst", and lamenting our losses, I would have phrased it,

"Too bad we invaded Iraq on trumped up WMD evidence, against the wishes of the rest of the world, and destabilized the region, resulting in close to a million Iraqi deaths and an ongoing trillion-dollar budget sinkhole."

Related to Iraq, I'm also not so sanguine about the POTUS's unconventional strategy of preventive invasion, or his choice to fight an expensive war without finding the resources to pay for it, aside from a staggering deficit.

On the original topic, perhaps our current stance of suppressing distribution of information on birth control in the Third World should be reconsidered by the next POTUS, if indeed the population explosion is a problem, as I'd agree it is.
