Down in southeast Kansas it is a mess. In the river valleys destruction. Most of the SEK area got anywhere from 12-25 inches or more of rain from last Thursday to Saturday noon. Ground was already soaked. The river crests on all the rivers (4) broke the old records or are coming in at #2. The one that impacts my family the most crested 6 feet higher than the old record. The barns are on a side of hill coming out of the valley and we had water into the barns. Family and friends with water over the roofs of their homes and most don't have flood insuance. A lot of farm equipment didn't get moved out because no one beleived it would be this bad and by the time everyone realized this was so horrid, you were moving cattle out of the lowland. Some of the cousins have their farm equipment, shop buildings and homes under water (no ins.) but they did save the cattle herds. Then there will be all the damage to roads and bridges. Due to the rains this year most crops never got planted. There are places in SEK where they have had 50 inches of rain since the first of March, they ususally get 36 or so for the year. If you don't know if you are in a flood prone area check floodsmart.gov. $400.00 a year for flood ins. is way cheaper than what a lot of the family is facing now. Remember home owners policies don't cover flooding.
