First of all, I am not a geologist; I am presently a financial analyst manager for a casino corporation. When I worked for Exxon in the early 80's, I worked in their geology department. I was just starting back to school to get a degree in finance. I took the temporary job (6-8 months or so, full-time) at Exxon to help make ends meet. I don't remember the exact nature of the work I did there, but I was assisting the geologists using data from wells that were no longer in operation and making graphs of oil and water and gas content. If I have the story right, Exxon wanted to see which ones could be economically feasible to start production again. Does that make sense? As I recall, all the wells were in the Southern Calif / Los Angeles region. I remember the geologists were all very nice and very helpful in explaining things to me -- but it's been 25 years ago, and it's but a distant memory now.

Another thing I really do remember about working there was that, although Exxon had offices throughout the building, they did not have their name on the front of the building. There was nothing in front to indicate the building was occupied by Exxon. I thought that strange at the time, but I was told they did not want people to know of their presence. I guess this came about because of the unpopularity of the oil companies after the gas lines of the 70's.
