The May 17 "Nature" (v. 447) has a news feature on the 12,900 years ago impact hypothesis (thread below). It gives credit to Allan West, "a self-taught geophysicist in Arizona who collected many of the new samples."
Thought some of you self-taught earthquake people would like to hear that.
