Biked back to the Missouri River again on Sunday, this time with Heartland Wife. I was a little surprised that it was very slightly higher...I thought it would have fallen. But, the main difference is that there was little debris..last Wednesday it was impressive how many logs and other debris were floating down...I guess the rising river picked up a decade of stuff, and then 5 days later, there was nothing to pick up.
I don't have much to say about quakes these days...except I spent most of the weekend making a 3D view of the Los Angeles area...the sub-surface where a ~5 Ma horizon is present, a digital elevation model (DEM) where older rocks are exposed. My electricity-guzzling 2006 model desktop replacement could not handle the file sizes, so I was having to regrid the DEM at lower resolutions. I'll have to think about whether I can put this on my web site and link to it from here...that could cause problems with eventually publishing in a journal like Geology...The point of the figure is to show the true size of the onshore-offshore Palos Verdes anticlinorium (which I think requires a thrust fault of similar dimensions to explain).
