Hi Michael. I have been looking over your shoulder and I can see the possibility of the form your proposing intimidating some people not to make any quake forecast. I have always believed in the “KISS” principal.

I would like to see it in its final form much the way it is now. As to the magnitude. The most common ones seen here are Md and Ml. Japan uses MJ.

Here is a list of the ones used more often as not, but not in all areas. Take Care…Don in creepy town.

mb Body wave magnitude.

Mc Coda magnitude.

Md Duration magnitude.

MGN Magnum amplitudes used within the Southern California Seismic Network for some smaller quakes, up to about magnitude 3.6 .

ML it is based on the highest amplitude seismic wave recorded at the site of the seismometer.

MLg A version of ML

MSZ (often just noted as MS.

Mw Moment magnitudes.
