Kind of reminds me of Northridge where we (Santa Clarita) were isolated from the LA basin for a few days after the Northridge earthquake when the I5/I14 interchange was demolished. If we wanted to get to the LA basin, we had to take some mountain routes. Needless to say, I didn't go to work for a few days. I couldn't even call in to tell them of the problem.

We also had no drinking water for a few weeks. Several pipes had broken. We had to go down to the local park to pick up plastic bottles of water in order to have drinking water. Also, we had no electrical service either, but that only lasted a day.

Also, most of the local grocery stores were out of commission as well. We had to do with what we had for a couple of days. Great fun (except for the people with houses in our tract that got red tagged). :-)
