Appreciate that info. I did look at the historic MT solutions on the 8.1, but that file only goes back to 2003. There isa variety of quakes and depths there, the most notable was a 7.5 in September 2005. Also the phase data at distance shows 7.8 up to 8.2, so they will be looking at that for a while I am sure. NST showed a 7.7, which they always seem to X-out. Understandable, given the local geology over the wave patterns. My thinking is that they allow the oceanic crust to attenuate the wave for a better Mw, in the end. Chris and Vidale would know for sure. They have 91 stations listed for now.
