There is discussion about the active trace of the San Andreas Fault moving eastward which would be to the deserts. Which I wouldn't mind at all! We do have several serious faults still surrounding us.

Just think of those 2 giant plates (Pacific and North American) locked together and struggling in the southern california area between the areas of the 2 big bends - it has caused all our beautiful mountains to be created. Of course this has taken a few million years to accomplish.
