The Grocery Store advice is good.

I was reading Petra and Don's page and what they say about the grocery stores as well as info about how even being on the epicenter of a 4.0 can cause damage. I remember living in Danville, California when in April of 1990 it was on the epicenter of a swarm of quakes. Each one getting bigger. The first one hit at like 1 in the afternoon and measured 3.5, then at 330 a 3.8 hit then at 740 that night at 4.5 hit w/ lots of aftershocks in the 3 and 2 range following. This sequence repeated itself again 3 weeks later. Anyway, back to my point. I remember my mother and I going to the grocery store right after the 3.8 had hit at 330 in the afternoon. Indeed, being on the epicenter of the 3.8 was enough to toss a lot of the merchandise onto the floor. They were able to have it all cleaned up as we were entering, but my mom bought a jar of apple sauce and it had a crack we didn't see. As we were checking out the clerk rubbed her hand on it and began to bleed all over. Her manager came w/ a cloth and my mom helped her too. The manager made some comment that it took them 2 days to clean up after the 89 Loma Prieta. I knew then, a grocery store would be the last place I'd ever want to be in ANY size quake!
