Put all the M6+ quakes for California onto a graph by time of day. Then it should look clear enough if there is a pattern or not....but may be statistics of small numbers. You have to decide ahead of time whether quakes like the offshore M7 1927 Lompoc quake, or the 1812 Santa Barbara quake belong (the earlier 1812 quake belongs if there is an accurate time).
