I did as you suggested, plotting days increasing downward on the y-axis and longitude on the x-axis. Color and size for mag.

A 1 year plot looks ok but as you add years the dots get squashed. I don't see anything notable except a decrease in smaller quakes about mid-2006. It doesn't present well on the screen for anything over a year. It would look better on a tall scrollable screen so you could scroll up or down. But that's a lot of work...
