Re: Another piece of the puzzle? |
For Chris and John, Appreciate your input on this. I have looked at possible AMR in the Anza Gap area and will present some of that over the weekend when I have more time. I would like you to evaluate the following three MT Solutions (at your leisure, when your time permits) of the three largest quakes in the Agua Caliente swarm. ------------ http://www.data.scec.org/mtarchive/solution.jsp?eventid=10226877 The second quake on 01/18/07 was a normal, at 18 Km depth, notice the NP strikes. http://www.data.scec.org/mtarchive/solution.jsp?eventid=10227209 The third quake on 01/19/07 was also normal, but at 5.9 Km. Again notice the difference in the two normal solutions. http://www.data.scec.org/mtarchive/solution.jsp?eventid=10227393 These different depths and strikes indicate to me that the southern Elsinore fault and the detachment faults are acting together in that region. The three quakes were within a 5 Km circular. I think the normal solutions indicate a detachment phase because I must also consider the In-Ko-Pah swarm further south. A full cycle of detachment seismicity has not been seen here before. This area is under study. B. Dorsey and some of her grads are working on this area. See the link. Good map of the faulting in the western margin of the Salton Trough. Is it all related to AMR? Don't know until something bigger goes down.
