I just want to make a note here - I think it was after the 99 Ludlow area quake that the SCEC issued a warning for the San Andreas - there had been some slight movement at the southern end by the salton sea that had them concerned.. but there was a statewide warning issued.

So, it's not an impossible scenario.. if they are truly worried, something tends to come out.
