Yes it's true that ANYONE can post to an unmoderated newsgroup.

But that's why your newsreader program has filters. You are using a program that has filters, right?

But let's look at it in another way. A newsgroup such as A.E.P. does not have anyone to stop people from posting. To me, this is the bigger advantage. There is no censorship. No blocked messages. No one to say who can say what.

Also, there's no possibility of deleting or editing messages. To some, that can be very important.

Finally, web forums come and go, and their contents subject to the whims of the owner, the ISP, and Murphy's Law. Newsgroups do not have that problem, or are at least very resistant to them. There will almost always be a record somewhere of what was posted in the newsgroup. There is no single point of failure.

Don't get me wrong. I'm beginning to enjoy this forum. It does have certain advantages.

So it all boils down to what is important for you.
