I'm nor -rereading the abstract...but I would guess it was in lithospheric mantle ...below the crust. I think one of the abstracts said the deep M6.7 or whatever it was was oblique normal and the M6 that occurred 7 minutes later was shallower, and was oblique thrust. There was not as much information in the abstracts about what caused the earthquake as I would have liked to have seen. I saw that the larger quake was on the N-S of the 2 nodal planes, but did not see anything on propagation direction...I assume it propagated north because of how strongly it was felt in Mauii (including by my sister). Are there 1 or 2 "i"s in Maui...
