ABC news reported a M8.1 this AM with epicenter near the coast of Hokkaido (sp?), but the NEIC page has it as M7.8 100s of km to the NE in the Kuril Islands. While a M8 or so can break a couple 100 km, for a subduction earthquakes, and the focal mechanism is consistent with this, I would not expect more than about 200 km for such a quake. So, I assume ABC has cut their budget and cannot afford an internet connection? We will see soon what is correct. ABC reports a tsunami warning for Honshu, Hokkaido, and north, but there is no link to the tsunami warning center on the quake on the NEIC page...I'll check this out after this post....A scroll under the screen suggested a very small tsunami...
