A Meeting Of The Minds

Hi All. The little debate that took place a couple of days made me realize that the ability to forecast a major quake is still a long ways off and indeed may never become reality.

There are those who don’t trust the USGS, then there are those who don’t believe in earthquake sensitives, and still there are those who don’t believe that some animals can sense a quake before it happens. The list goes on.

There is the reluctance on the part of some to look at the various different methods that are being used at the present only because they don’t understand it, don’t believe in it, or just can’t except it.

There are those who for what ever reason try to pass themselves off as earthquake sensitives by taking shots in the dark so to speak, while others who really do sense an earthquake, but don’t believe it, while others know they are sensing an earthquake, but have no understanding as to how, or why. There are those who do have a fair understanding and have set about trying to learn more about what it is that they sense and what it means.

Even if all of the various groups were able to come to a meeting of the minds so to speak, there are still going to be major quakes that no one will see coming. In my case I have learned what to look for using the SJB data. I also learned that what I have learned only applies to the SJB area. I see the same thing with the Bay Area data, but I don’t achieve the same results. I have yet to make one correct forecast for the Bay Area and have no understanding as to why.

The way I see it a viable method of forecasting a major quake is still a long way off. I could be wrong, but with the attitude that prevails at present time the day of forecasting earthquakes may never arrive. Take Care…A pessimistic Don in creepy town.
