From my understanding, all quakes that show up on the USGS maps are tentative until the data is reviewed by a seismologist. Sometimes the instrumentation will go down, or give false data and show an earthquake that is later deleted after human scrutiny.

Some on the Syzygy board are sure this is a USGS conspiracy to deprive the public of accurate information. I sincerely doubt that. If that were the case, why would the USGS even have the maps up and running, not to mention all the other information available on their site?
