Thank you Don!

Here is the sequences I find telling:

PDE 1988 06 27 ... 5.70 MLBRK
PDE 1988 06 30 ... 2.70 MLBRK

PDE 1989 08 08 ....5.40 MLBRK
PDE 1989 08 08 ... 4.30 mb GS
PDE 1989 08 08 ....4.50 MLBRK
PDE 1989 09 11.... 3.40 MLBRK

PDE 1989 10 18 ... 7.10 Ms GS

In 1998, the 5.7 had only one aftershock, a 2.7 three days later. There is a year of quiescence, then three midsized quakes in on 8/8/99 and one "aftershock" on 9/11 then ... Blammo.

Unless I'm misreading this data, I would have thought a 5.7 would produce more than one 2.7 aftershock if it were a main quake (and not a foreshock). But it is considered by most a foreshock.

Now, were Bolinas a year or so after it's 5.0 to produce a swarm of 3-4 mg. quakes followed by a 6-7, that would be more than interesting.
