What about the doctor in Australia who, on a hunch, proved that ulcers are cause by H. Pylori, a stomach common bacteria, and not the spicy foods and stress people had been blaming them on for years? When he first presented his research at a medical conference, he was practically laughed off the stage. Two years later, his hypothesis was accepted as fact.

Most scientic knowledge across the board (from my very limited and unscientific perspective) is in it's infancy. To rule out any hypothesis as invalid just because it is improbably is (again IMHO—well, maybe not so H) foolish.
