Hi Don - first, I didn't get that link to work..but you can get to it from the link below - you have to choose disaster preparedness on the left column, then find videos at the bottom of the list.

On one hand I think it might be fun to get the videos and invite my neighbors over for a little afternoon party - then I think that they'll all think I'm pretty crazy! I've just moved into this neighborhood and they are all great people but I don't think they'd be ready for this! Maybe I can do some desreet inquiries. I am the 'new kid' on the block.

On another hand - I think fear is a great motivator and in that vein I put together a presentation for a class I took last semester. I was asked to present it at a program down at UCI and I will be doing that in about 2 weeks. The theme is the 1933 Long Beach Earthquake and other geological hazards. About the 1/3 end of the presentation is a scenario as to what would occur if that quake were to happen again. It is NOT a pretty picture. I have ended it there but in class I told everyone how important it was they they all be prepared. I kinda left them in shock. They didn't really know or hadn't faced the reality of it.

When you can tell people facts and figures as to HOW IT WILL BE then they get it. What gas lines will be broken, sewer lines, phone lines - name the streets they live on and they get the picture in a hurry. Until it has some reality in their life they won't do anything.

I will modify my presentation a bit and put a blurb (at least) about the importance of preparedness and earthquake kits.
