Yes - and there's the real key to this whole thing - we can live with most of Mother Nature's antics if we're smart about it. Don't build on top of a fault, build next to it with proper engineering, build on stilts in a flood zone, maybe dig down to bedrock in liquefaction zones - stuff can be done to mitigate and live with nature (OK - 9.5 quakes followed by tsunami would be difficult to live with!)
