Hi All, As Don and I were in Berkeley anyway today, we decided to make an impromptu visit to the UC Berkeley Seismo Lab. Conditions in the building look considerably better than they did nearly two years ago when the building was undergoing a major retrofit. Today we found a more modern version. Entering through double doors, our eyes cast into this hallway where the doors to the offices had frosted glass with a seismogram engraved in them. Then on the hallway floor which was beige with brown edges, the same seismogram in the linoleum. Very nice. We went hoping to find someone who knew more about the Rodgers Creek Fault and found one young man who let us know according to his knowledge it is locked solid, however, he admitted our data was newer than his. I wanted to say hello to the guys in the seismo lab who run Momento Mori and found they and a number of others were attending a weekly earthquake meeting. They have a number of glass display cases full of rocks from all over the world. Each floor has several of these. The collections are amazing. I could imagine all kinds of beautiful jewelry when viewing them. However, the beautiful gypsum crystals in a large piece that Don gave me is equal to any of these. It comes from Arkansas of all places. No doubt we'll be going over there again in the future, so maybe next time our visit will not be so late in the day on Friday when most leave early. Petra & Don, back from Berkeley.
