Tres Pinos quake, Long Valley Data

Hi All. The 3.0Ml,3.1Ml and the 3.9Ml we had this morning is what keeps us honest. Even though we have a lot of creep that doesn’t mean we can’t get a wake up call now and then. I didn’t feel the 3.0Ml, 3.1Ml and just barely felt the 3.9Ml. These quakes are in the area where we have a quake of this magnitude now and then.

I made a couple of phone calls this morning concerning the dilational strain and short base tilt at Long Valley. I was told to consider the data as being good. There have been a couple of long period quakes, but not enough to considered them a warning.

I know from viewing data from other volcanos that there were hundreds of long period quakes just before an eruption. The fact that there have been some long period quakes inside the caldera does mean that magma is moving. As to where it’s moving to is another question. Take Care…Don in creepy, but sometimes shaky town.
