Creep Data For The Bay Area

Hi All. I routinely checked the data twice a day. I’m seeing something now that has me a little concerned.

For more then 6 months there has been acceleration in creep for the Bay Area. It now appears that it is returning to a neutral rate. In other words it is slowing up. At present there is no indication of strain buildup anywhere in the Bay Area. That in of itself doesn’t mean very much. There can be a buildup of strain outside the parameters of the stress data that would not be seen. There may be one exception to this and that is if the strain buildup is sufficient enough to produce a 7.0M or larger quake (7.0M is just a guess on my part and could actually be more, or less) and it isn’t to far removed from the data sites there may be an increase in strain just before the fault ruptured. However if this were the case I don’t think there would be a way to determine the magnitude of the quake before it occurred. Again I’m just guessing at this. It’s going to be interesting to see what develops over the next couple of months. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
