We sometimes tend to think of a cartographers demarcation line on a map as a virtual border or a state or in this case country. There is nothing between Yuma and Mexico but a fence and a bunch of INS and Border Guard agents. Seems to me 50 miles south is not that far. Depends on the quake size. Remember the MTJ was only 50 miles north of me on the Mendo Coast and I felt the quakes there. Also when the 7.? hit in '91 up there, my son was living on the coast about 50 miles south. Thier building shook so badly that they spent the next 3 nights in a tent out of concern of aftershocks...Always live on the top floor.
