A radio is a good one to put in the other shoe. The best tip I think I ever heard (besides don't smoke around gas leaks)is to have a crowbar or several stored for rescue purposes, in Japan many burned to death while trapped under debris that crowbars could have moved with a few strong backs and good crowbars, and a bouble bitted axe oughta do just fine for beams and with trees a chainsaw will do wonders. In the event you are on a known ambulance or emergency route, if you and neighbors can clear obstructions and assist to get injured evacuated to hospital. Out of town contact #'s should be re-confirmed. MEDICATIONS that are necessary should be filled and in access after a quake...more. Just in case. Take care, it shouldn't and may not get ugly.
