Hi Michael. Not bad for a first try. As I was a analyst for the Air Force I would like to point out a couple of things you may have missed, or didn’t take into account and then again maybe you did, but didn’t elaborate. Using the data you used you will see that the catalog started on 10/20/1985 and ended on 01/15/1995.

This can be viewed in two ways. There were no earthquakes within that radius before 10/20/1985 and none after 01/25/1995 or the catalog is incomplete for whatever reason. The easiest way to check this is to take the location and use the catalog for quakes from 1735 to 1974. I did this and found the catalog started on 04/12/1885 and ended on 08/27/1974. If the catalog were correct this would mean that they’re no quakes of any kind between 08/27/1974 and 10/20/1985 and none after 01/15/1995. If you accept that then there is no need to go further. I didn’t accept that. I took one quake south and north of the data you used. Gave it an 8K radius and look for the number of quakes and what year the catalog started and ended. Did it once again with 16K and once again with a 24K for total of 15 miles. What I found was no overlap north of the center being used with considerable overlap south of the center being used. Some of the overlap was due to earthquakes east and west of the fault in the Pinnacles area.

The catalog for the north data started in 1973 and ended in 2000. The one for the south started in 1977 and ended in 2000. My conclusion is that the catalog is correct. However I found one 5.0M, nine 4.0M+ and fifty-eight 3.0M+. Keep in mind that a good portion of these quake are outside the original 15 mile radius as we were trying to determine if the catalog was correct. Take Care…Don in creepy town
