The USGS takes great care in its' locations, which are initially computer generated but then examined by seismologists for bad data and/or solutions. This process is done repeatedly until the location is as good as possible. That's what gets published.

But then all our data is sent overseas, merged with any other data they can come up with and a computer (only) solution is published. I know for a fact some of it is bogus.

That's why I only use NEIC solutions.
