What a cool thread....

I agree with Penny, its tough to say if we will have a prediction method on a human time scale. One area I see promise is the whole idea of cataloging and database management of all quakes combined with satellite scanning of the plate movements. You have to wonder if maybe a thousand years from now after all those scans and such a full data base is complete if we will be able to pinpoint quakes within hours. Alas, I KNOW, who's going to be around in a thousand years...but its a thought.

One thing that is a positive is that in the past 20 years CA has been rocked by several strong quakes...and as a whole the state has come through okay. I don't subscribe to a doom and gloom scenario where a big quake will hit and millions will die and blah blah blah.

I think this board is really cool. I have learned a lot. I enjoy for most part reading others predictions and methods. In the last seven years I have gotten a feel for what works and what doesn't. I think Glen has an interesting strategy of focusing intensley on one area and pointing out little things I woudln't have seen on my own. Pet ads and behavior still seem curious. Tones? I'm not sure, I think it could have SOME potential but I vastly dispute the official explanation and definition of how they work, not to mention I have yet to see a tone prediction work and be consistent. BTW any predictions out there for that Hawaii quake? Ear tones? That would have been itneresting as there was no background to dispute with (i.e. a lot of predictions now for like a 2 in CA is hard to measure on success due to the large number that happen anyway)

ANyway, I think this is a great board. I lurk on here all the time and always read everyone's posts. I always like what others have to say and often get a good smile from a lot of the posts on here. In the past 3 months this board has been the best it has ever been and it seems to be getting better.
