Minor Quake Strikes Near Mount Rainier By Associated Press October 8, 2006, 1:31 AM EDT SEATTLE -- A magnitude 4.5 earthquake rattled homes east of Mount Rainier on Saturday night, but no injuries or damage were immediately reported. The quake struck just before 8 p.m. about 7 miles east of the mountain's summit, said Tom Yelin of the University of Washington Seismology Laboratory. Yelin said he did not think the quake was associated with any volcanic activity. Residents in Packwood, Maple Valley, Enumclaw and Renton reported feeling the earthquake, which was followed by two smaller aftershocks. Copyright 2006 Newsday Inc.
