Fault cracking, then off topic

Here is part of an email I sent....related to the west outcrop of the Santa Cruz Island fault:
I think we made a mistake not taking a picture (or, did ****?) of the mole-track like disruption of the surface above the last active north surface of the fault. The U MO talk was about trenching the Dead Sea Rift fault system in Lebanon, and the speaker was trying to date earthquakes by use of what looked like just cracking. Tom Rockwell's student did the same on Santa Rosa Island: claimed Holocene earthquakes, but there was not vertical separation and I saw en-echelon cracks along the last active surface of that fault (precisely) when they had not been there at a previous visit. This was at the easternmost outcrop, so only a few km WSW of Christi...

Could it be some creep on just the shallowest part of fault? Or, just shrinking and swelling of clays in fault zone?

**OK, end of that. A little about my new location: you turn on the TV Friday morning to check the news and get a preacher. Then, you change the channel and you get a recurrent informercial on colon health. We have the basic cable package and we either need more channels or no channels. Otherwise, going to enjoy a sunny mid 80s day biking down the rail-to-trail to the Missouri River..
