On The Road At The AGU

Hi All,

Don and I have enjoyed two days at the AGU, viewed some very interesting posters and spoke with a few of their presenters and today attended an all afternoon lecture series by 9 presenters on the Hector Mine/Landers earthquakes.

Seems very much that the presenters today believe from various theories that Landers triggered Hector Mines. An excellent presentation was delivered by Max Wyss in which he showed A,B and Z values for this area from Landers to Hector. I think I've mentioned that Max and I used to e-mail each other and had spoken on the phone before, so today, I finally had the opportunity to meet him personally. Like most e-people and phone people, he seemed exactly the same up close and personal. I also had a short chat with Lucy Jones. She wasn't a presenter, but part of a group that wrote a paper on Landers.

One of Don's favorites was a poster about Tibet. Don was able to ask the gentlemen about an area where the surface of the ground in spots was hot to the touch. My favorite poster was on the volcanoes of Italy. There were two gents in attendance at the poster and I wanted to speak to the one from Italy, but he was precluded by someone else, so I spoke to a young man from the Italian Volcano Center.

The list of exhibits is long this year and tons of free reading material is available. I came home with an armload today. They also had a rock sales booth and I picked up a couple of rings made of stone. There were no less than a dozen things I would have liked to own, but oh well.

The convention has been terrific and the weather in the City warm as springtime. Though our backs are hurting considerably by days end, we are going back tomorrow, early AM to see a poster presentation by Walter Arabasz of Utah. He's another e-friend I'm looking forward to meeting.

And so it goes...Petra & Don on the road, in San Francisco.
