The Triggering of Earthquakes

Hi All. It seems that the Hector Mine quake shook up a number of people. This is a short article taken from a report written by Stephanie Kriner, Staff Writer, DisasterRelief.org

It also points out the potentials of one quake triggering another quake although there are some who are at odds with this.

Just a few hours after the recent Hector Mine Earthquake rocked Southern California's Mojave Desert, a smaller, but much more threatening, set of temblors showed up on seismic charts. The quakes -- some as powerful as magnitude 4.0 -- put seismologists on edge as they vibrated ground less than seven miles away from the Salton Sea, an area experts consider the most volatile portion of the massive San Andreas Fault.
“We’ve been really skittish whenever anything happens in the vicinity of that portion of the San Anderas Fault,” said Kerry Sieh, a seismologist with the California Institute of Technology.
Because the area of the fault that runs through the Salton Sea hasn’t moved for at least 300 years, experts say it has built up enormous tension, making it the most likely spot to trigger the next “Big One” in Southern California.
Take Care...Don in creepy town.
