Re: Emergency responders planning for earthquake along New Madrid fault

I am glad to see them doing a bigger drill, but practice will never cover the real thing. I have taken a couple of classes on New Madrid and on its impact on Kansas. We are an evacuation area, but no one really knows how much we might rock in eastern Kansas. Then there is the whole bridge issue. Many of the older river bridges in all the states and the evacuation states may not stand up to much. How bad the climate is on rescue and impact depends upon the time of year. My view fall/winter would be the worst. Then there is the impact on the east coast. Shortages of fuel, medical supplies, medical skills; economic cost of just the destruction, but also all the commodities shipped on the Mississippi and destruction of locks. My view is NM will make the WTC and Katrina look like a kids toy.
